Lash extensions are one of the easiest beauty additions you can put on your face. Although it seems heavy at first, lash extensions become a lot easier to bear in the long run. You might even develop your love for it once you see how it makes your eyes pop.

6 Ways to Take Care of Your Lash Extensions

If you want your lashes to last at least 6 weeks, follow these tips:

1. Don’t Touch Them

The first rule in lash care extension is no touching. When the extensions are applied, the glue is still starting to settle in. If you touch them, the dirt and oil from your fingers will go to the glue and hair strands which will give it a hard time to attach. If you’re itching to touch it, make sure you do so using light touches after 36 hours.

2. No Rubbing

If you can’t touch them, then you can’t certainly rub them either. Rubbing will increase the strain in the root of the lashes making them easier to fall off. What’s worse is that if some loose lash strand goes to your eye, it can cause irritation and redness.

3. Use Oil-free Products on the Eyes

Dirt gets attached to oil so easily. If you want your lashes to stay nice and clean, then you have to avoid accumulating oil in your eyelids. You can do this by regularly using blotting paper to remove excess oil on your eyes. You can also wash your face from time to time and slowly pat your face dry with a towel.

4. Clean Them Every Week

Yes, there’s a certain way to take care of your lashes. Using a lash cleanser, gently put a bit of the product on your eyelashes (this will also help clean your eyelids). This can be tricky at first but the soap will eventually reach the eyelids. If you don’t have a lash cleanser, a baby shampoo or a mild shampoo can be used as alternatives.

After you wash them, let it air dry for a while and then brush it with a spoolie. The spoolie helps separate each eye lash so they don’t get tangled to each other. When brushing them, don’t do the mascara technique where you wiggle it at the base of the lashes. Instead, brush them outward and in one direction only.

5. Don’t Sleep Face Down

Lastly, always try to sleep on your back. Sleeping face down will just irritate and damage your eyelashes. Can you imagine lying flat on your face for long periods of time? Doing so will just ruin those delicate lashes.

In fact, there’s a high chance that sleeping face down will cause extra wrinkles in your eyes and your lashes to end up sideways. Caring for your eyelashes seem to be a lot of extra work. However, it only feels that way at the start.

Once you get used to it, it naturally becomes part of your skin care routine. If you think your lash extensions are damaged, consult the salon where you got it for a repair.
