Your skin is the largest organ of your body, not to mention it’s one of the most prominent part. This is why if you’re going to use anything on it – soap, make up, washer, cleanser, toner, and whatnot – you want to make sure you’re only putting ingredients there that will help you keep that glowing skin.

But what exactly should you be looking for in your cosmetics? Check these out.

Ingredients for Skin Restoration

Now, there are several ingredients that help restore the skin and any one of these items will work in your cosmetics. All retinol products are an instant gold start in the list.

Look for peptides, linolenic acids, adenosine, and niacinamide. You might notice that some ingredients have more familiar names – like green tea and aloe vera extract. These have also been proven to help restore and hydrate the skin, especially when added to facial washes.

Ceramides

These are actually naturally produced by the body, but not at a fast enough rate. If introduced through cosmetics, it provides the exact same benefits in that it speeds up the process of absorption for the ingredients in the skin.

Look for Ceramide 1 or 3 which are known for keeping the skin hydrated. The Ceramid 9 on the other hand helps restore skin lipids to keep it looking plump and fresh.

Natural Oils Derived from Plants

Skip the whole fake perfume and opt for oils taken from plants. You’ve got avocado oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, safflower oil, and sunflower oil.

Sure, they don’t carry a pleasant scent – but that actually works in your favour. These oils are packed with lips that closely resemble the lipids produced by the human body which contributes to overall skin health.

Vitamin E and Others

Flip your favourite cosmetic and you might find it containing all sorts of vitamins. If it doesn’t contain Vitamin E however, you might as well dump it because Vitamin E is the very essence of a good facial product.

It’s the vitamin that’s primarily concerned with keeping your skin glowing, plump, and clear – all hallmarks of good health. If you can’t get your vitamin E from the cosmetic, make sure you’re getting lots of it through your diet.

Assorted Ingredients with Refreshing Benefits

Look, it’s going to take a long time if we’re making a paragraph for each ingredient you want in your cosmetic back. Take a quick look at the list below and make sure many of them are in your list:

  • Omega Fatty acids
  • Amino acids
  • Cholesterol
  • Salicyclic acid
  • Glycerin
  • Glycolic acid

What About Ingredients to Avoid?

Also note that there’s a balancing situation here. Even if your cosmetics contain one “good” ingredient but contains bad ingredients, you’re better off buying something else.

In fact, skip any cosmetics that contain any of these: parabens, parfum or artificial fragrance, phthalates, toluene, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulphate, oxybezone, polyethylene glycol, triclosan, and diethanolamine.

The good news is that Australia has a fairly active Department of Health and associated government organisations to help test cosmetic safety before being launched in the market.
