Most of us often treat ourselves to a day at the spa to have our hair revitalised and nourished. However, there are many natural hair treatments that we can apply right in the comfort of our own homes. Here are 3 of these natural treatments to nourish and strengthen your hair.

1. Eggs

This is a natural hair treatment that is not new. In fact, there are documents to prove that eggs have been used as a hair treatment since the 11th century.

Egg yolk contains lecithin, which is a major constituent of modern-day hair products. Lecithin and the other healthy fats found in egg yolk can help nourish the hair, also giving it a healthy glow.

It is perfect for treating dry and damaged hair. The egg white, on the other hand, is rich in protein. This can help improve the cellular structure of hair, allowing it to grow stronger. Hence, whole eggs can be an excellent way to nourish the hair.

Beat 2 to 3 whole eggs and add about 2 to 3 drops of citrus juice. Apply the egg mixture onto the hair, making sure to work it well into the scalp.

Put on a shower cap and leave it for about 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water and apply shampoo and conditioner. You can perform this treatment once every 15 days.

2. Avocado

This purplish fruit is rich in antioxidants that can help promote healthy and strong hair. It is also rich in biotin, essential fatty acids, and the antioxidant vitamins E and A.

Avocados are perfect for de-frizzing, allowing better control of your hair flow. At the same time, the nutrients that this fruit contain can help provide the important nutrition that individual hair follicles need.

Get a ripe avocado and split it in half. Reserve the other half for your future treatments. Mash the avocado and turn it into a paste.

Add one egg yolk or a tablespoon of mayonnaise or sour cream. Dampen your hair and apply the avocado paste, working right into the scalp.

Cover with a shower cap and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Treat your hair with this avocado recipe once every 2 weeks.

3. Coconut Oil

Natural hair care treatments won’t be complete without coconut oil. It contains lauric acid. This acid is a lot easier to absorb through the individual hair shafts.

As such, it is the perfect choice for those who want to prevent the loss of hair proteins because of chemical treatments or UV exposure.

You can use extra virgin coconut oil for greater concentrations of lauric acid. You only need to massage about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil into your hair. Start from the hair root and work your way towards the tips. Leave it for about 5 minutes.

Take a shower, shampoo, and conditioner, and you are done. Do this every 2 weeks for best results.

Nourishing your hair aside from your usual routine is easy. Make sure to apply an egg hair mask, an avocado treatment, or a coconut oil therapy to give your hair the health it deserves.
