We all have been here before – spending hours in our favourite salon to get our hair fixed, with a bit of pampering on the side, our hairstylists doing their magic to make your hair look beautiful. And what do you know, after a few hours, your hair looked gorgeous and amazing! WOW!

Once you’ve stepped out, your hair is soft, shiny, and full of life. You feel like you are a model on a cover of a magazine. But how do these hair stylists do it?

Honestly, until now I am still in awe wondering how do they do it. Because after a few days, my hair turns back the same way again. I try to recreate it at home. But it seems that I always fail in making my hair salon perfect.

What’s the secret?

As it turns out, your hairstylist is not there to scold you for having a bad hair day but they are there to make sure that they take care of your hair the best way possible and give you healthy hair. That’s one of the reasons why you go out of the salon with the best-looking hair ever!

Here’s how the magic happens:

Start it off with high-quality shampoo

Did you know that you may be doing it wrong when shampooing your hair? A high-quality shampoo can make a difference to make your hair look at its best.

If you haven’t used a clarifying shampoo, then this may be the time to check it out. Clarifying shampoos can help you get rid of all product buildup and impurities that your hair collects every day. However, it is not for everyday use because it can strip your hair from its natural oil hence you should limit its use to just once a week or when you feel like your hair needed it.

Conditioner also plays an important role

Your hair and scalp also depend on using the right conditioner. While many people hate using a conditioner, it is because they don’t rinse the conditioner enough that results in making the hair limp, greasy, and weighed down.

The key is to choose the right conditioner for your hair. And this is where your hairstylist comes to the rescue! Aside from giving you the right advice, you also need to rinse the conditioner thoroughly.

If your hair is oily, apply the conditioner mostly at the ends of your hair where it is very dry, and avoid applying it directly on your roots.

Use hair serums

While your shampoo and conditioner are important, paying close attention to the hair styling products you use is essential as well.

If you want the feel of having soft and shiny hair after a visit from your salon, you can ask your hairstylist what product they’ve used in your hair. A combination of hair styling products can be used, depending on your hair needs.

A great place to start is using these main products: hair oil, smoothing serum or frizz reducing, and a hairspray. You can use them all or stick to using one. Hair oil helps hydrate, soften, detangles, reduce frizz, and tame unruly hair. It also prevents hair breakage and flyaway hairs.

Apply hair oil before combing and apply it at the ends of your hair. Use a small amount in the mid-shaft towards your scalp. If your hair tends to get oily, don’t apply it to the roots. Even if your hair is not unruly, a smoothing serum can help in making your hair shiny and hair smoother.

Simply apply a smoothing serum on slightly dried and freshly combed hair. Rub a small amount of serum on your hands and work it through your hair. Comb through to ensure that the product is evenly distributed.

Take it easy when using your hairbrush

Most of us are guilty of rough drying our hair and ripping through just to detangle them after a shower. But have you experienced that inside a salon? Probably not.

Once you are done taking a shower, be sure that you gently work your way through your hair while drying and untangling them. Softly squeeze excess water and be sure to use a wide-toothed comb or hair straightening brush. The lighter and softer you comb through your hair, the less frizz and breakage you’ll create for your hair.

Invest in high-quality styling tools

Aside from having the right hair products, the right tools also play an important part in making your hair smooth and shiny. Whether you want to have curly hair or straight hair, make sure that you invest in high-quality styling tools that will not only take care of your hair but will last for a long time.

Make sure that you use heat protectants when using heat tools to avoid heat damage and provide a smooth finish in your hair.

Choose leave-in conditioners

Moisture is the key to having shiny and beautiful hair. Hence, there is no need to double condition your hair. Sometimes, double conditioning can weigh down your hair which results in looking limp and dull.

Use a leave-in conditioner after your shower to provide extra moisture in your hair. It is also advisable to have deep conditioning treatments once or twice a month to keep your hair smooth and healthy.
