The perfect pedicure does not have to be expensive. Yes, you heard it. If you’re going broke because of all the splurging on shoes, bags, and facials, then you can save a little by doing a DIY pedicure. Follow this 8-step routine for the perfect pedicure!

Step 1: Remove All Nail Polish

The first thing that you have to do is to remove all the nail polish left from your previous pedicure. Make sure that you use a cotton ball or a cotton bud to clean even the sides of your toenails. Use a nail polish remover and don’t ever scrape your nail polish.

Step 2: Soak and Wash Your Feet

To resemble a spa-like experience, place your feet in a small tub with warm water. Put a few drops of body wash and let your feet rest for 15 minutes. Swish the water with your feet to spread the soap and create bubbles. This will also help make your pedicure experience more aromatic.

Step 3: Exfoliate

When you’re all relaxed, it’s time to massage and exfoliate. Get a loofah or a brush that can scrub off the dead skin cells. Focus on the balls of your feet, the sides, and even the top part. Scrub it until it feels smooth but make sure that you don’t go overboard.

Step 4: Shape Your Nails

Once you’re satisfied, rinse your feet and wipe it with a foot towel. Then get a nail cutter and trim your nails to form the shape you want. Finish this step by using a nail file that can soften the sharp corners of your nail and to smoothen out the points.

Step 5: Put Cuticle Oil

Cuticle oil is not only for making your pedicure appointment fancy. In fact, it helps keep your nails moisturised. Apply a drop on every nail. When you apply it, make sure that the oil is spread all over the nail. Be careful with the spilling.

Step 6: Separate Each Toe

While waiting for the cuticle oil to settle, it’s time to prep your feet. Sit on a chair or a flat surface where you can place your feet up. Put one cotton ball in between each toe so they are properly separated. This will help lessen the chances that you’ll hit the other toe with your hand and ruin the fresh nail polish.

Step 7: Apply the Base Coat

Now it’s time to apply the polish. When applying the base coat, start from one side, moving the brush from the base of the nail to the tip. Move it in an outward motion. After putting the base coat, wait for two minutes (on each toe) then apply another layer.

Step 8: Finish it Off with a Top Coat

Once the base coat is dry, apply a quick-drying top coat that will keep the color intact while adding a little shine to each nail. Then, place your feet in cold water to solidify the nail polish. After a few minutes, you now have perfectly colored toenails.
