We all know that a lot of women are concerned with keeping their bodies hairless especially those that really matter (you know what I mean, winking).
While hair removal is not a luxurious part of your weekend pampering schedule, it definitely takes most of your time in your beauty routine. Good thing though, there are many ways that you can do to remove your hair.
These days, there are many innovations and new ways to remove your hair. However, it can be a daunting experience because you don’t really know which of these will work well for you. Fortunately, there’s no need to worry! I have rounded out the best ways to remove hair and provided the different pros and cons of each for better understanding:
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that is used to reduce the growth of hair on areas like armpits, bikini area, legs, and even your face. The laser penetrates your skin and targets the hair shaft which inhibits the growth of the hair.
The process destroys the follicle which means it can provide permanent removal. The hair typically falls out within 2-3 weeks and it lasts longer before the hair comes back. Hence, it is a great option in providing permanent hair removal.
Pros: Long-term hair removal in all areas and also good in treating large areas of the body.
Cons: It can be painful for some and also requires numerous visits to the clinic for best results. It can also be quite expensive and time-consuming as you have to schedule your visits every time.
But because of the new innovation in skincare tools, it is also worth checking for laser hair removal tools at home. Also known as IPLs or Intense Pulse Light Devices, these are tools that can help in removing unwanted hair. They are safe and easy to do. But most of all, it is another inexpensive way to remove hair.
Waxing
Waxing involves having a warm mixture that is applied to your skin and removed quickly once it gets cooled down. There are two different types of wax that can be used – hard and soft wax.
Hard wax firms up on its own and usually is made from resin, oils, and beeswax. It does not need a strip for the hair to be removed. On the other hand, soft wax needs strips to remove. It is usually made with oils, rosin, and other additives. When the wax is applied, the strip is placed on top of it to remove your hair against the growth direction.
Pros: Temporary solution in removing hair but can last for about three weeks of having smooth skin. You can choose from doing it in a salon but there is also an option of doing it at home which is less expensive.
Cons: Waxing requires to have hair regrowth before it can be effective since the wax needs a few inches of stubble for it to adhere. The treatment can be a bit painful as the hair is being ripped off the root of your skin. It can also result in having ingrown hairs, redness, rash, and irritation.
If you are planning to do waxing, make sure that you choose the right wax for your skin. Exfoliate your skin for at least 48 hours before waxing. This will help in making the wax stick and prevent the growth of ingrown hairs.
Shaving
Shaving is another hair removal technique that removes hair with the use of a razor. It is a technique mostly used for your face, legs, underarms, and those with finer, lighter hair.
How often you shave depends on your preference. It would also depend on how fast the hair comes back. Most women experience having their back in their legs, bikini line, and armpits within two or three days. Hence, it requires to shave often, every 3-5 days.
Pros: Painless, easy, quick, and inexpensive.
Cons: Hair regrowth is quick and regrown hair can appear thicker because hair is cut off at the surface. It can also cause razor bumps, cuts, nicks, and ingrown hairs.
If you are shaving, ensure that you use moisturisers to keep the skin soft. Don’t use a dull blade and don’t shave against the grain because it will cause irritation, bumps, and cuts. After each swipe, rinse your razor using clean water to prevent it from clogging which may cause infection.
Once you are done shaving, rinse the area with clean water to help the pores and follicles close up.
